August 5, 2018 - Vampire Weekend debuted multiple new songs from LP4 tonight at the Metro in Chicago - 4 ½ via aux cord from Ezra’s phone and 1 live performance. One of the songs is titled ‘Big Blue’.
General first impressions on how the new music from LP4 sounds: “springy”, “poppy”, and “light” (though the tracks were “clearly” unmastered). Some people say it’s quite different from VW’s previous music but others are saying it’s very similar to what they’ve done before.
The words on the sleeves of their recent tour merch (”We took a vow in summertime // Now we find ourselves in late December”) are confirmed as being lyrics in a new song. This song also includes a reappearance of the line, “I don’t wanna live like this, but I don’t wanna die” from ‘Finger Back’.
The whole show was around 3 hours long; they played a mix of songs from their first 3 albums, some deep cuts (like ‘Giant’ and ‘Ottoman’), a cover of ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, & Baio’s ‘Sister of Pearl’. They then played the new tracks from LP4, and then finished out their set with an encore.
After the show, Ezra, Baio, and CT handed out $2 bills to people in the crowd.
